The Acer brand sure knows how to tickle the digital fancy of its customers as it introduces the Acer Predator 17, a laptop that doubles as a workstation. It features a 17-inch screen. The Acer Predator 17 design is crafted for superb performance as it comes with amazing features.
DESIGN
The Acer Predator weighs about 8.7 pounds with a thickness of 1.6 inches which is a regular with most gaming PC, the Acer predator body design is lavished with a black and red color theme and a rough and tough angular design, the chassis is completely hewn out of plastic with a matte finish to complement the device this gives it a gentle and soft feel, BUT with the plastic chassis the Acer predator may not withstand spillage.
The device has a dimension of 16.7×12.7×1.6 inches which makes the machine quite huge, another striking feature is the red highlights on the vents at the back of the machine, the red-sided colored W, A, S, D keys and the two front speakers, the double LED strips on the back of the lid, and to cap the design is the iconic Predator logo strategically inscribed at the back of the lid.
GRAPHICS and GAMING
Much can be said about the gaming functions as the Acer Predator is manufactured with an Nvidia GTX 980M graphics card and also boasts of an Intel Core i7-6700HQ with speed capability of a 2.6 GHz quad-core processor, truly the Acer Predator is at the top of its game.

DISPLAY
The Acer Predator 17 has an attractive, bright, ht and luminous LED screen with a variety of colors and a resolution of 1080p. The Predator’s screen is capable of displaying 116 percent of the average color gamut. While 1080p might seem smaller next to 4K panels found on some notebooks, it’s still the best choice for mobile gaming. Resolutions beyond 1080p put too much strain on the hardware, compelling users to reduce detail in the pursuit of an acceptable framerate.
AUDIO
The system also comes with Dolby Audio software in order to customize the aural experience to suit your tastes. The audio on the Predator 17 is amazing. The Predator 17 features four speakers, as well as two subwoofers present on the underside of the device.
KEYBOARD and TOUCHPAD
Like most gaming laptops, the Acer Predator 17 is commodious for a large keyboard and puts that space to good use. While not as luxurious as having a fully mechanical keyboard.
Present on the left side of the keyboard is a profile key accompanied by five extra keys underneath it. These keys can be used to activate Acer-exclusive features. Worthy of note is that the keyboard is capable of lighting up a dark room, as it features four discrete lighting zones, the first three of which are red, and the last features a blue light. The lighting looks dim, but for the record, the keyboard is incredibly amazing.
The touchpad, on the other hand, features a smooth feel and a light, responsive touch.
PORTS and WEBCAM
The Predator 17 is altruistic when it comes to ports, as it offers a generous number of ports. It features four USB Type-C ports and a DisplayPort for UHD video out, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, an SD card reader, and a slot for a Kensington lock. There’s also an optical Blu-ray drive that you can disengage for the addition of a fan.
As for the Webcam, it sports a 720p webcam that looks grainy even when in brightly lit environments, and the microphone is also okay but not as clear as a dedicated headset or USB mic. The webcam, along with the mic, is perfect for Skype video calling.
HEAT and NOISE
The device has a temperature range of 80 and 83 degrees Fahrenheit when used to watch videos and browse the internet. The laptop features two fans at the rear, which jump into work immediately the system is used for gaming, but stays very quiet, and it’s interesting to note that Acer draws attention with their Dust Defender technology, which puts the fans to reverse mode to clear out accumulated dust once every 3 hours.
BATTERY LIFE
The Predator 17 packs an 8-cell Li-Ion battery, 6000mAh, that features 5 hours of battery life. This laptop boasts a higher-than-average battery life for a gaming laptop with such a large screen. Still, when compared to most modern laptops, this is absolutely not a lot of time.
